The Final Tally

The notebook's cut-off final line had one exception to his own rule: he never used full names in those pages, except once, at the very end. Initials, for the one person he trusted completely. I followed them.

Her name is Maelis. She built her entire adult life around a promise she couldn't be sure would ever be collected, and kept it anyway, for decades, on faith alone. She had the completed tally the whole time.

It confirms he was killed, not simply overtaken by time. And it goes further than either institution wanted to imagine on its own.

This is the part I've been building toward since zone 46. Ten zones of marks, signatures, positions, and patterns, and the tally's first fully confirmed entry is finally a real name. Someone findable.

That's it for this particular thread. What comes next is different work: not finding the next site, finding the person.
